Vintage Motorcycle Painting

My vintage motorcycle painting (artist John Robertson) hanging in the new Transmission Brewing which is about 50 steps away from my art studio. The painting hangs opposite the 49 Mercury painting that I posted a few days ago.  Periodically I would go out to “The Rock Store” a very famous motorcycle hangout on Mulholland Highway halfway between Malibu and Calabasas in California.  There is a well-known curve where the riders raced around and a lot of photographers sat on the sidelines photographing them – some waiting for crashes. The brewery is in the downtown area of Ventura and absolutely gorgeous. Part of the brewery is a Toppers Pizza.

My Motorcycle Experience

I have painted about a half dozen motorcycle paintings, and all are close to life-size.  This painting is 5 feet by 7 feet, acrylic on unstretched canvas.  I was never a rider but always liked the concept of motorcycles.  When I was in my teens a friend had a BSA “Cub” which, as I recall was a 250cc.  He took me up on the freeway and got us up to about 75 mph and it scared the hell out of me. No helmet, wearing shorts, teeshirt and flip flops and it wobbled all over the lane.   I couldn’t wait to get off.  Later on my friend, riding by himself, did what most motorcycle riders do – crashed.  A couple of days in the hospital and afterwards he spent some time getting the bike back  in shape to ride again.
